Laser Cutting at THG

Fiber laser cutting in carbon steel, stainless, and aluminum. Flat sheet and plate, and tube and profile on a tube/profile laser: length, copes, holes, and weld prep cut in one operation instead of being handed to a saw, a mill, and a fitter with a tape measure.

The tube laser is the part worth understanding. When the copes and the hole pattern are cut into the tube, the weldment locates itself. Frames come out square, fit-up time drops, and distortion drops with it. On a repeating run of containment frames or rack bases, that’s the whole cost difference.

Cutting is rarely the last step, and here it doesn’t have to be. The press brake, the CNC, and our certified welders are in the same building, so your part can leave as a flat blank or as a finished, welded, ready-to-hang assembly.

The process

How it works

  1. Send the file

A DXF for flat parts, a STEP for tube and profile. A dimensioned PDF print works too; we'll draw it and send it back for your sign-off before anything gets cut.

  2. We nest it

Your parts get laid into the sheet for yield, not for convenience. On a repeating run that's the difference between paying for parts and paying for drops.

  3. Cut

Flat sheet and plate on the fiber laser. Round, square, and rectangular tube, angle, and channel on the tube laser, with copes, holes, and weld prep cut in the same operation.

  4. Form, machine, weld, or ship

The press brake, the CNC, and our certified welders are in the same building. A flat blank can leave here as a finished bracket, or as a blank, whichever you asked for.

Scope

Scope of work

Discuss the items your project needs. Final scope is confirmed with your quote.

  • Flat sheet and plate. Carbon steel, stainless, and aluminum cut to your DXF, with an edge clean enough to go straight to forming or weld.
  • Tube and profile. Round, square, and rectangular tube, angle, and channel cut on a tube/profile laser: length, copes, holes, slots, and weld prep in one operation.
  • Cut and form in one shop. Parts come off the laser and go to the press brake in the same building, so a flat blank becomes a finished bracket, panel, or enclosure without leaving.
  • Weld prep and tab-and-slot. Bevels, copes, and self-locating joints cut into the part, so the weldment squares itself instead of relying on a fitter and a tape measure.
  • Nesting for yield. We lay your parts into the sheet to cut drop, and we tell you what the nest looks like before you commit to a run.
  • Etched marks and part numbers. Part numbers, bend lines, and orientation marks cut into the blank, so two hundred similar brackets don't become a sorting problem on your dock.

The laser exists to build equipment

We aren't a job shop that also welds. The laser is here because The Henry Group builds and installs production equipment, so the parts coming off it were drawn by people who have to bolt them up later.

Tube laser changes the weldment

Copes, holes, and weld prep cut into the tube means a frame that locates itself. Less fit-up time, less distortion, and an assembly that comes out straight the first time.

Cut now, welded this week

Laser, press brake, CNC, and our own certified welders in one building. Your parts don't queue at a second vendor to become an assembly.

FAQ

Laser Cutting: common questions

What materials can you cut?

Carbon steel, stainless, and aluminum, in flat sheet and plate as well as tube and structural profile.

Do you cut tube and profile, or only flat sheet?

Both. Tube, pipe, angle, and channel run on a tube/profile laser, which cuts length, copes, holes, and weld prep in a single operation instead of leaving it to a saw and a drill press.

What file format do you need?

A DXF for flat parts and a STEP for tube and profile is ideal. A dimensioned PDF print or a clear sketch is fine too; we draw it, send it back for your sign-off, and cut from the approved file.

Can I have parts cut only, and weld them myself?

Yes. Plenty of customers buy blanks and take them back to their own shop. We'll nest, cut, deburr, and mark them, and tab-and-slot the joints if you want the assembly to square itself up for your welders.

Do you do one-off parts or production runs?

Both, and they get quoted the same way. Tell us material, quantity, and the date you need it on your dock.

Can the laser work feed a data center build?

That's most of what it's pointed at now. Containment panels, cable tray and ladder rack components, bracket and hanger runs, enclosure blanks, and the tube frames that carry them.
